Editorial Contributor Guidelines

Scope of Magazine

International Ocean Systems (IOS) is the leading European-based magazine serving and informing the vast and important international oceanographic market. Published bi-monthly, it comprehensively covers the field of ocean data gathering, underwater surveying and instrumentation, and is distributed worldwide.

Feature articles published in the magazine range from technical articles to invited or independently submitted contributions of special interest to the communities served by IOS as well as more news oriented features. As a general rule, articles should be readable, informative, interesting and succinct!

Feature Article Specifications

The best length is 1200 to 1500 words. Prepare your article in a word processing format (Microsoft Word 97-2003 is preferred) and e-mail it to the editor as an attached file. You may also mail a disk and hard copy of the article to the address below (please scan disks and attachments for viruses before sending).

Images and graphics should be supplied as separate high-resolution JPEG, TIFF or EPS files. For reproduction purposes, the files need to be at least 300 dpi and open up to a minimum of 80mm x 60mm. Captions for all illustrations (including photo credits where applicable) should also be supplied.

Writing should be crisp, clear and plain-speaking. Avoid jargon where possible and spell out abbreviations on the first use. Units referred to in the text should always be given according to the Système Internationale (SI) – if data have been recorded in different units, the values in SI units should be given immediately afterwards, enclosed in parentheses.

Conditions of Acceptance

We edit all manuscripts for style, format, space and readability. Time constraints do not allow us to send galleys or other edited forms of manuscripts to authors. Manuscript submission implies that authors agree with our policies. IOS cannot pay for manuscripts. Published articles from professionals are considered contributions to the field.
